Di(2ethylhexyl) phthalate

This natural organic compound has been widely used for the fabrication of PVC pipes and other plastic products, and is also found as a solvent in glowsticks. It has been introduced into water supplies mostly due to discharge from rubber, plastic and chemical factories and their improper disposal of materials. Although there isn’t much evidence as to its long-term effects on humans, it has been linked to reproductive difficulties, especially testicular dystrophy, as well as liver and kidney problems and has been proven to produce an increased risk of cancer.
