Sulfate

Sulfate can be naturally occurring due to leaves that fall into a stream, or water passing through rock. It can also be created through municipal or industrial waste, from industries such as tanneries, pulp mills and textile mills.

In high concentrations, sulfates have been attributed to temporary laxative problems. It has been shown to be toxic to cattle in high doses.
