Microorganism (parasite) found in rivers and lakes that can contaminate drinking water through infected human and animal fecal waste from sewage water that we later consume at home. It is a very resistant organism and can tolerate
disinfection. Potential health effects include a disease commonly called ‘Crypto’ that mainly causes gastrointestinal discomfort including diarrhea, vomiting and cramps, since the parasite will live in the person’s intestine.« Back to Glossary Index
