Cryptosporidium

Microorganism (parasite) found in rivers and lakes that can contaminate drinking water through infected human and animal fecal waste from sewage water that we later consume at home. It is a very resistant organism and can tolerate chlorine disinfection. Potential health effects include a disease commonly called ‘Crypto’ that mainly causes gastrointestinal discomfort including diarrhea, vomiting and cramps, since the parasite will live in the person’s intestine.
